sweat. Slowly, he realized where he was, what was really happening, and that
all of that had been nothing but a terrible nightmare. Unfortunately, it was
quickly becoming a common occurrence- it was a dangerous job, he knew it, and he
had made sure he was prepared for everything. Everything but the nightmares.
All of his training and studying of the paranormal and
occult did not help him steel himself against the terrors that haunted him in
the nights. It was always something different that triggered these nightmares,
of course- sometimes, a particularly bad situation. The children's reading room
had him afraid to sleep for nights. Sometimes, a possession, when he just
couldn't shake that chill that always lingered in his skin, bones and soul
after it had been expelled. No matter what triggers the nightmares, its
impossible to sleep alone for the rest of the evening.
Slowly, he slipped out from under his covers, careful to
keep quiet as to not wake the others. He tiptoed over to the bed of his fellow
scientist, hesitating before slipping beside him, trying not to disturb his
sleep. But the older man was logical- the energetic, younger Ghostbuster had
done this many times before, and it didn't take his calculating mind to notice
the pattern. It hadn't been a good day on the job, he anticipated the other
scientist joining him in bed and, in result, was awake and waiting for him.
In an odd show of affection, the normally emotionally
inhibited man wrapped a comforting arm around the other, allowing him to press
close, stroking his brunette hair in a soothing manner. The younger responded
well to this, and relaxed, his fear easing away as sleep overcame him again.
Hearing his partner's breathing slow, the older man pressed
a gentle kiss to the forehead of his partner, surprising even himself. It was
an unnecessary action, the recipient of the kiss was not even consciously awake
to feel it, and yet it seemed like the proper thing to do. Puzzled, he decided
to ponder about that later, soon forfeiting to the lure of sleep as well.
In the dark, the younger man smiled.
